Our company was formed in 1995 after its founders, Frosty and TJ Smith, realized a need for quality high altitude Red Angus cattle in the state of Colorado.
Frosty has been raising cattle in the San Luis Valley in southern Colorado since 1965. A family operation specialized in yearling commercial beef cattle. The family business progressed into a commercial cow/calf operation that raised black baldy cattle.

In 1997 we sold our bulls through private treaty at our ranch. In 1998, 1999, and 2000 we sold our bulls in a production sale at La Junta Livestock in La Junta, Colorado. From 2001 through 2005 we again sold through private treaty at our ranch.
In 2006 and 2007 we hosted a rancher's auction private treaty sale at our home in Fort Garland, Colorado. This was the first time we included females in our sale.
We have noticed a change in trend navigating towards internet website sales and have decided to switch our sales program to reflect that change.

After TJ received his degree in Animal Science from CSU in 1995 Frosty and TJ decided to form Smith Land & Cattle Company and continued to raise commercial black baldies. In the fall of 1995 we purchased our first Red Angus bull from Meyer Company Ranch in Helmville, Montana. In January 1996 we purchased the foundation of our cow herd from Double Fork Red Angus in Dillon, Montana and Redland Red Angus in Hysham, Montana.
