Welcome to Smith Land & Cattle Company, LLC. We have been raising registered red angus cattle since 1995. Our goal is to produce quality and performance-driven red angus cattle that will excel at high altitudes. We focus on low birth weight with high carcass data.

In 2007 we decided to change our bull and heifer development program from grain-fed to grass-fed. With the high prices of commodities, it wasn't a hard decision to make. We are quite pleased that our animals did exceptionally well with this new program.

We are currently offering our second set of grass-fed bulls and heifers. The bulls look great. They were weaned last November and have not stopped growing since. We wintered them on oat hay and alfalfa with nominal gain slightly above maintenance. In the beginning of May we moved the bulls to northeastern New Mexico and summered them on gramma grass native pasture. These bulls are weighing around 1300 pounds average -- keep in mind this was all done with hay and grass, no grain. The fleshing ability of these bulls is excellent. Our average birth weight on this set of bulls is 70 pounds. These bulls will work great on heifers or cows; it's your choice.

Most of the bloodlines we have been using are producing a mature cow size of 1100 pounds. We feel this is optimum for cattle in our region of the country.
